Do Possums Dig Holes Or Burrow Underground?
Finding holes or animal burrows on your property can be an aggravating experience. It can ruin the appearance of your lawn and be annoying to cover them and get new grass to grow. Next time you see Destin raccoon removal holes or burrows on your land, however, know that possums are not to blame.
They Don’t Dig For Food
In nearly all Destin snake removal cases, holes dug on your property will not be made by possums. Possums prefer to eat insects, grains, and greens. They have also been known to eat dead meat or small rodents, but they won’t ever dig up your lawn in search of these foods. They are even unlikely to take fruit from your tree, instead choosing the rotted fruit on the ground.
They Don’t Dig Burrows
Instead of digging their own burrows, possums are smart and let other animals do the work for them. They may live in a burrow, but they will only do so if another animal has already created it and left the area. You may find a possum living in a burrow, but he likely did not dig it himself. They may also live in tree cavities or anywhere with ground cover.
Their Claws Don’t Dig Well
In fact, the anatomy of possums makes it challenging for them to dig, helping to explain why they don’t do so. Their hands are soft and delicate and despite their sharpness, their nails can be ripped out easily. Because of this, they cannot do a great deal of Destin rat control digging.
What Damage Can They Do?
Now that you know that possums aren’t responsible for holes or burrows on your ground, it is time to consider what these animals may actually do. Most of the Destin bat removal problems associated with possums have to do with food or shelter. They may move into the area under your porch or even your attic in search of shelter. They could then leave a foul odor or spread disease.
Possums are also foragers and opportunistic Destin rodent extermination eaters, meaning they have been known to go through garbage cans. If you leave pet food out, possums may eat some of it. That being said, just because your pet food was eaten or an animal went through your garbage, that doesn’t mean it was a possum. Many other animals, like raccoons, could also be guilty.
You can reduce the risk of possums damaging your property by keeping it clean. If you remove access to garbage, fallen fruit, pet food, and other sources of food and Destin bird control shelter, they will be unlikely to take up residence on your property.
